Some laughed when Ole' Joe talked about dignity

 

Way off topic here. Someone I used to work with just informed of being laid off from a very large and well known high tech company. When something like that happens, it's a gut punch. Especially if you were a super loyal employee, put in the long hours, sang the praises of the company and now they do this to you!

Some people laughed when ex-President Joe Biden spoke about workers having dignity because they have a job. How true. When the company you were loyal to throws you out like so much excess trash, you lose all sense of being a useful human being. You lose your dignity. You lose your sense of self worth.

Everything From Everywhere All At Once -- Doesn't Fly

 Greed. That's the in-your-face word describing why self-taught coder wanna be's like me (wanna learn Python) get too close to the sun , melt, fall, and fail to reach their goal. There are just too many free and great tutorials available on the Internet. The urge is to learn every detail possible about Python all at once. I want to understand that one now. No, I mean that other of infinite aspects now. No. I changed my mind for the Nth time today and found a new superseding desire.  Sundas Khalid characterizes it more politely as "information overload" in her video entitled "Why 99% of Self-Taught Programmers Fail" ( here ). Whatever we call it, it's the road to ruination. We grab for too much chocolate before having gained mastery of the fundamentals. And that applies to my current progress report. I Lied

I lied. Back in Post number one ( click here to see it ), I implied that I was just another old geezer learning Python. I kind of promised that I would take readers along with me on this senior citizen's journey while learning the language. But then I went off on my own without logging my journey. It went fast. Part of the reason is that some 40 years ago I was a computer engineer. I coded in something called, "assembly language" ( never mind ) and even soldered in the digital logic chips into the hardware. So it was misleading to say I knew nothing about computers or software engineering and I would be advancing at the speed of a complete noob. In 1980 I joined the "Dark Side" as they say in the Star War movies. Rather than staying in the tech world, I went to law school.  I haven't coded much since then. I lost touch with the coding world.
